Truck loaders are responsible for loading and unloading trucks with cargo. They may work at a warehouse or shipping facility, where they use specialized equipment to move large quantities of goods from one area to another.
Truck loaders must be able to lift heavy objects and often spend their days moving boxes, crates, pallets, and other materials onto and off of trucks. This can be physically demanding work that requires strength, endurance, and attention to detail.
Truck Loader Job Duties
Truck loaders have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
Inspecting and evaluating incoming materials to ensure they meet standards for quality and safety.
Communicating with dispatch regarding loading times to ensure that deadlines are met.
Operating machinery such as forklifts, pallet Jacks, reach trucks, and lift trucks to move materials.
Loading and unloading products, materials, machinery, or equipment from trucks, railcars, Barges, or ships.
Organizing and maintaining inventory records of materials stored in warehouses or elsewhere.
Reading maps and charts to determine locations of storage facilities.
Maintaining inventory records to track materials being stored or transported.
Loading and unloading trucks with materials such as lumber, steel, chemicals, furniture, or food products.
Performing clerical tasks such as recordkeeping and filing.
