The Delta Cloud Engineering team designs, engineers and operates platform automation solutions that are leveraged by Delta Air Lines IT product development teams. The Delta CET is also responsible for self-service Windows and Linux platform provisioning, hybrid (public and private) cloud management, and Delta’s Platform-as-a-Service environment.
In this position as a System Engineer you will be responsible for assessing, designing, planning and implementing Dev Ops capabilities in complex, multiple application, production environments in Amazon’s public cloud environment (Amazon Cloud Services). You will provide leadership and direction in your respective technology domain, mentoring team members to drive organizational maturity. You will also consult with development teams to ensure platform fit aligned to the business application requirements.
Knowledge of APIs, micro-services development, containers and supporting platform technologies also required. This position reports to the Manager of the Cloud Engineering Team within the Infrastructure and Reliability organization.
Your responsibilities in this role
- Provide technical input and design guidance for Public Cloud (AWS) integration.
- Create and support accounts and profiles in Delta’s AWS Landing Zone and or AWS Control Tower Assist with automation development using Ansible or Cloud Formation to support teams in acceleration of application delivery to AWS.
- Leverage capabilities like Lambda to implement automation for foundations features and functionality.
- Ensure Security-by-Design is a foundational component of every app deployed into AWS.
- Serve as a technology consultant to major projects and programs leveraging public cloud capabilities.
- Engage with development teams and business stakeholders on definition of system requirements.
- Develop Public Cloud Usage Statistics and Reporting dashboards for account owners.
- Ensure requirements are consistent, complete and operationally defined.
- Creation, management and maintenance of system designs, including DR plans.
- Aid development of frameworks and tools to enable dev teams to leverage authorized AWS services.
- Partner with peer Infrastructure teams to provide enterprise class public cloud integration and capabilities.
- Partner with the Dev Tools team to develop and deploy a CI/CD pipeline leveraging tools such as Gitlab, Maven, Quarkas and Jenkins.
- Ensure enterprise monitoring standards are applied to each AWS app deployment.
- Assist in identifying new concepts, ideas, techniques, and technology assistance (best practices, guidelines and design patterns for supported technologies)
- Perform cost benefit analysis to determine best system architecture via software, hardware, internal cloud, externally hosted or other defined model.
- Knowledge share with engineering and development staff on public cloud integration design and hygiene, driving quality, consistency, resiliency, security and supportability into designs.
- Aid creation, management and upkeep of Intranet FAQs, User guides and Knowledgebase, standards and build documents including DR plan for the enterprise.
What are We are looking for? / what experience do you need?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and/or 3 years of experience in Security Engineering, Dev Ops or IT Operations roles, strong familiarity with the principles of Dev Ops and Agile development.
- Candidate must have 3-5 years of recent, relevant public cloud adoption and integration experience.
- 2 + Years of hands-on experience securing cloud applications and infrastructure (AWS strongly preferred)
- 2 + Years of hands-on experience with public cloud infrastructure and services in AWS (IAM, VPC, KMS, Cloud Watch, Systems Manager, S3, RDS, Route53, Lambda, AWS Config, etc.) is a strong plus.
- 2 + Years of hands-on experience building and securing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Cloud Formation, Ansible, SAM and/or similar tools.
- Understanding of software development life cycle models, as well as the approaches to implement the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Understanding of the shared responsibility model in AWS.
- Fluency with one or more scripting/coding languages (e.g. Bash, Python)
- experience implementing and leveraging logging and monitoring solutions is a plus.
- Relevant security and AWS certifications are a plus but not required.
- 3 + Year’s in infrastructure and or network support.
- 3 + Year’s experience in software development life cycle, TLM tools, and API integration.
- 3 + Year’s experience developing software or scripting with Java, JavaScript, REST, JSON, Python and UNIX shell.
- experience with various configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet Tereform or Salt Stack.
- experience troubleshooting network-related issues such as DNS, HTTP and TCP/IP.
- experience with Infoblox IMAP, F5 Big-IP Local Traffic Manager and Cisco ACI.
- experience with log aggregations tools such as Sumo Logic, Splunk or Elastic Stack.
- AWS Certified Professional – Associate
- Ability to clearly communicate and present to various levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
