WORK EXPERIENCE
February 1999 to date Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA). Network Administrator:
• Maintain, monitor and manage BEDIA’s LAN Network.
• Installation, and maintenance of software relevant to the organization’s day-to-day functions and ensure that the software is upgraded as and when the need arises.
• Hardware installation, configuration, upgrade and maintenance (computers, laptops, printers and fax machines).
• Network troubleshooting and support.
• End user support which involved providing assistance to staff members in network problems: i.e. failure to logon to the network and access to network resources.
• Day-to-day back up of the organization’s system files using ARCserve IT software.
• Create and manage staff accounts using Active Directory.
• Create and manage staff email using Microsoft Exchange 2003.
• Recommend appropriate backup measures & ensure individual staff members adopt and follow these measures accordingly.
• Conducted an information technology gap analysis (systems auditing) which involved:
o Auditing of the organizations network performance,
o Auditing of the software and applications in place,
o Auditing of the IT equipment utilized by the organization,
o Auditing of the operational functions within the organization,
• Made recommendations for the organization to upgrade the information technology’s infrastructure based on the report of the audit.
• Developed ICT & Security Policy an internal control initiative to ensure assurance that the organization’s mandate is achieved and risks are prevented.
Web Manager:
• Maintain and monitor the organization’s website, intranet, extranet & virtual market. Uploading content using a Content Management System (CMS), monitoring the web database of subscribers to BEDIA’s E-News, conduct mass mailing which involved sending publications to subscribers electronically and generated quarterly reports on these subscribers.
• Manage and monitor web inquiry. As BEDIA’s first contact person through the website. I receive all inquires then channel them to the respective departments.
Project Manager:
• Design, Development and Implementation of the BEDIA website Phase 1. This involved working directly with Consultants who were engaged on this project. I ensured that the project was conducted swiftly according to the project plan and all stages of the development phase were completed within planned time-scale and budget.
• Development and Implementation of a Virtual Market (E-Commerce) platform: my responsibilities involved coordinating the development of the project and general maintenance of the platform afterwards
• Development of a Multimedia Suite which included a Presentation Template, Electronic brochures and creation of BEDIA Corporate Video. Working directly with Consultants and coordinating the development of the Multimedia Suite.
• Hardware and Software Procurement: suggested and made recommendations to replace BEDIA’s old hardware equipment with new ones. Engaged in the overall procurement exercise which was subjected to a tendering system were terms of reference were developed and all tendered companies were assessed through an evaluation criteria.
• Implementation of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software – Maximizer Enterprise 9: this involved making recommendations for BEDIA to purchase a CRM software, researching on the capabilities and features of the software, benchmarking with available software in the market and selecting a suitable one for the organization.
• Network upgrade: made recommendations for the organization to upgrade its network. This involved migrating to Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, migrating of the mail server to Microsoft Exchange 2003, upgrading the anti-virus software to F-Secure Anti-Virus client security, implementing Netsupport Manager v.10 which allows for remote network support.
• Corporate Website Upgrade, Intranet and Extranet Development. Phase 2: My responsibilities involved coordinating the overall project, this entailed developing terms of reference, advertising on local papers for the tender, evaluating submitted tenders, interviewing short-listed tenderers, engaging the successful tenderer and drafting Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). Working directly with the consultant to develop the Project Charter and Project Plan.
o Coordinated evaluation meetings for IT related projects.
o Developed an evaluation criteria form to evaluate IT related tenders.
Other Responsibilities:
• Security - ensuring safety and security of BEDIA’s network infrastructure, (data, information and resources) by implementing anti-virus software, anti spyware software, .
• Ensure that operational standards are implemented. This involved conducting monthly backups of individual files on media devices e.g. CDs.
• The development of the Information & Communications Technology Department strategy to implement systems that will support the organizations objectives.
• Undertook research to identify new Information & Communications Technology networking capabilities in the market that could be implemented and beneficial to BEDIA.
• Ensuring that the network and systems are available, running efficiently and effectively at all times to assist in the production of the organization’s mandate.
• Manage and ensure ICT resources are utilized to achieve optimum results.
• Maintaining an inventory system to monitor hardware and software usage, toner cartridges consumption and general record keeping of all ICT equipment (computers, laptops, printers, projects and cameras).
• Documentation of ICT procedures, ICT projects, and workflow.
• Budgeting for ICT projects and securing funds.
Administrative Responsibilities:
• Procurement of hardware and software, adhering to the procurement procedures of the organization.
• Manage budget allocated to ICT projects ensure funds are used adequately and submitted monthly reports to the mother Ministry on the status of projects e.g. Corporate Website Upgrade, Intranet and Extranet development, Hardware upgrade and Network upgrade.
• Liase with external agencies like Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC), Internet Services Provider (ISP) on technical issues relating to the organization’s internet disturbances.
Competencies:
• Critical Thinking / Analytical thinking – solving the website problem that the organization previously experienced. This involved certain stages (analysis, structural design, layout, data collection and modeling) that were carried out to come up with a dynamic, interactive, compatible and friendlier website.
• Innovation and Creativity – recently recommended that the department undertakes an Information Systems Audit in accordance with the BEDIA ICT Security Policy and proposed a different approach which entails four solutions (data protection, risk detection, control access and managing data) in securing data and information within the organization. This initiative is still at it’s early stage and has not be implemented.
• Interpersonal Relations and Communication - ability to communicate well with colleagues and external clients. I participated on the tender review exercise, selected the best candidate based on credibility and worthiness. I was also chosen as a treasurer for our social gathering, Motshelo.
• Service orientation – I have proven to practice best customer service principles and serving my customers to the best of my ability. I was the 2nd best customer service employee in my department.
